We caught up with our favorite New Yorker Penny Karabey to take us through her day to day for this season's New York Fashion Week. She is the high-fashion owner and founder behind luxury fashion eCommerce collective, Luxury Next Season. LNS is where you can find the rarest and most sought after designer pieces from around the world. We asked her some questions about NYFW to get an inside scoop at what to look forward to the upcoming season!
Which designer brands are you most excited to see this season?
For NYFW it was Zimmermann, Rebecca Minkoff. For Milan Fashion Week it will be Fendi. Finally for Paris Fashion Week it will be the Dior show.
Now that NYFW is winding down tell us how you styled your outfit at each of the shows you attended.
This year, I wore a long beige color Zimmermann dress with iconic Dior Boots from 2019 collection for Zimermann Show at Spring Studios. At the Fendi Event at Madison Avenue Store I wore a Fendi pearl embroidered bomber jacket, Fendi Medium Peekaboo bag in Velvet. This Fendi bag is limited edition and was only produced in five quantities worldwide.
For Rebecca Minkoff, I wore Fendi Cowboy boots and an off-shoulder sweater. At Anna Sui, since they have a colorful maximalist design, I wore a purple pants, green Marni sweater, Maxmara teddy bear Coat. It was an amazing experience to see Bella Hadid on the stage. For Hakan Akkaya, Turkish designer, I like his contemporary style. I wore Purple marni denim, white Jimmy Choo puffer boots with heels details, Givenchy brown trench coat with purple zipper and a Miu Miu velvet mustard color belt bag.
What were some of the trends to watch out from the NYFW shows?
Leopard coats, neon colors outfits and plaid prints were some of the latest trends during this season's shows.
Where do you find inspiration for your style?
For me, life is all about color. It can change the way you feel. I love that every color represents something different about me and I can express that, both to myself and to the outside world. The New York uniform is to wear black and it is something I simply can’t do. Color is too much a part of me, not just in my style, but also in other find color in my hair, my home and in my jewelry designs. I tend to make all of my accessories bright.
Green is almost always included somewhere in my outfits, I love that it is usually unexpected and it also looks fantastic with my hair and skin tone. I am a huge believer in both texture and quality materials. I think that a different material along with color can add dimension and intrigue to any outfit. My personal favorite is velvet. I adore the way velvet takes on color, especially with darker colors or jewel tones. I have several velvet pieces in my wardrobe and they make appearances in my outfits almost daily.
I am also incredibly partial to lace. I love the texture and pure luxury it adds to an outfit. One of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe is a Fendi pearl embroidered bomber jacket. The pearls add great texture and it is truly a treasure and one that makes me feel incredible every time I wear it. You will see an element of texture in my outfits every single day, whether it be velvet, lace or any other material.
What accessories did you wear for the shows/parties?
I love colorful accessories such as belts, small charm handbags, fur scarfs. I wore fur mustard color collar, Gucci logo socks.
What's your favorite part of NYFW?
Meeting with many designers is the most beautiful part. I love September shows because of weather. In February, it is a challenge to be chic.
Spring collections are arriving, which designer pieces do you think women should have in their closets this season?
This season I am craving all things purple! At the top of my wish list is a fabulous purple coat. I have seen a few but am waiting for one that speaks to me. When I find it, it will become a staple for the season. I am also a bit obsessed with all things Fendi.
It’s no secret I have a very special relationship with the brand and right now I am head over heels in love with their Peekaboo Defender cover, a piece of canvas that is placed over the iconic Peekaboo bag. It completely transforms its appearance and gives you the look of a brand new bag--but without the price tag. In fact, Luxury Next Season was one of the first retailers in the US to offer the Defender cover. Besides that Dior Book totes will be trendy and they have the smaller size, now. I guess they will rock the season.
